A True Bluenoser - In More Ways Than One...

Our founder, Reginald "Teddy" Snyder. |
Snyder's Shipyard's roots are deep in Nova Scotia heritage. The yard opened in 1876 as Leary's Shipyard and operated under their command until 1944 when it
was purchased by Reginald "Teddy" Snyder; the name was subsequently changed to Snyder's Shipyard.
Today, Teddy's son Philip co-owns the yard with Wade Croft. Many of our shipwrights are second and third generation
in their trade.
Besides our personal roots, we are proud to be part

of the schooner 'Bluenose' history. In March of
1994 'Bluenose II' was decommissioned, never to set sail again. Thankfully, the Bluenose II Preservation Trust Society was
formed and major repair work was carried out by Snyder's Shipyard between 1 January 1995 and Mid April 1995.
'Bluenose II' was recommissioned 28 May 28 1995 and still sails today.
In May 2007 Snyder's Shipyard was announced as the builder for 'Bluenose IV', a second replica of the legendary
schooner. The vessel will be built from the original W.J. Roué plans using traditional wooden shipbuilding skills.
Construction will start July 2008 and will take a little more than two years; the site will be open to the public. For more
information on the 'Bluenose IV' venture, click here.
Snyder's Shipyard is the exclusive authorized builder for new construction of the Bluenose Sloop, a 23'
daysailer based on 'Bluenose' lines, designed by 'Bluenose' designer W.J. Roué. For more information on the Bluenose
Sloop, click here.
