Snyder's Awarded Contract To Build Hector Mast
DAYSPRING, NS (February 2008) - Snyder's Shipyard was recently awarded the contract to build a new mast for the 'Ship Hector' - a Pictou, Nova
Scotia-based dockside tourist attraction. The vessel's mast was split in two during a lightning storm last fall.
Following is a photo gallery showing the process involved in building a new wooden mast...
Building the Topmast
Building the Mainmast
The log has just arrived
from British Columbia...
Then it had to be carefully measured to ensure the proper end dimensions...
Now they start the process of making a round log square, then eight-sided, then round - again...
Two weeks after they started the mainmast - all three sections are finished and ready to leave
for Pictou to be installed on the "Ship Hector."
Finishing touches in Dayspring before shipment to Pictou...
It's installation time in Pictou...
